†HAMLET†

SHAKESPEARE

†Ophelia†
There is a willow grows
ascaunt the brook,
That shows his hoar
leaves in the glassy stream.

Therewith fantastic garlands
did she make
Of crow-flowers, nettles,
daisies, and long purples,
That liberal shepherds give
a grosser name,
But our cold maids
do dead men's fingers call them.

There on the pendant
boughs her crownet weeds
Clamb'ring to hang,
an envious sliver broke,
When down her weedy
trophies and herself
Fell in the weeping brook.

Her clothes spread wide,
And mermaid-like
a while they bore her up;
Which time she chanted
snatches of old lauds,
As one incapable
of her own distress,
Or like a creature native
and indued unto that element.

But long it could not be
Till that her garments,
heavy with their drink,
Pulled the poor wretch
from her melodious lay
To muddy death.

I've been to New Orleans twice, and to Mississippi more times than I can remember.  Just trying to wrap my brain around the fact that so many of the places I've been and things I've seen no longer exist. ...and the people - there are so many in that region who just barely manage to eek out an existence - and now this.  They'll be moved to shelters - but then what?  Where do they go when things are cleaned up and there aren't homes to return to?  Jobs to pay wages and put food on the table?

OH THE HORROR!

My precious furbabies brought me their first confirmed *kill* last night about 3am.  Well, it wasn't exactly dead, but by the time I realized that they did not in fact, have a squeaky toy, it was pretty much all over but the crying...  Or so I thought.  Being the brave woman of this new century that I am, I covered mousie with a pan, then a drawer, to prevent further desecration of the "corpse."

This morning, mustering my nerve I went to get mousie, my two little murderers in tow.  I lifted the drawer.  I lifted the pan.  CHAOS ensued.  Mousie sprang to life, Kitties went on alert, and I went into panic mode.  Grabbing a hunting cat is a bad idea - especially if they have good aim with their claws - and especially if they are aiming at major arteries in your wrist...

But I digress, I rounded up the kitties and put them in another room.  I scooped up mousie and deposited it outside, I bled profusely.

I know what you're thinking - cats kill mice.  Indeed.  They do.  But mice are cute.  I canot let something cute die in my prescence and live with myself.  What the kitties do on their own time is their own business - even if I do have to dispose of the bodies later...

Once you have identified with some form of negativity, you do not want to let go, and on a deeply unconscious level, you do not want positive change. It would threaten your identity as a depressed, angry, or hard-done-by person. You will then ignore, deny, or sabotage the positive in your life. This is a common phenomenon. It is also insane.

Consequentialist
Your moral values are 33% absolute!
While you shy away from the idea that there is no "right" and "wrong," you attach special weight to the consequences of actions while deciding on their morality. Consequentialists usually come in two varieties, individualist and collectivist. The former is concerned with consequences to the decision-maker, while the collectivist tends to look at consequences for a bigger group, such as a race, a species, or an ecosystem.

I have a new job.

Baby, if you've ever wondered,
Wondered whatever became of me,
I'm living on the air in Cincinnati,
Cincinnati, WKRP.
Got kind of tired packing and unpacking,
Town to town and up and down the dial
Maybe you and me were never meant to be,
But baby think of me once in awhile.
I'm at WKRP in Cincinnati..

Okay, so it's not at KRP.  But it isn't a bank.  That's all that really matters.

(Growing up I always wanted to be Jennifer.  She made the most money, had the most power, wore the best clothes yet did the least work - genius I tell you! Genius! - of course I also wanted to be Irlene Mandrell...)
