†HAMLET†

SHAKESPEARE

†Ophelia†
There is a willow grows
ascaunt the brook,
That shows his hoar
leaves in the glassy stream.

Therewith fantastic garlands
did she make
Of crow-flowers, nettles,
daisies, and long purples,
That liberal shepherds give
a grosser name,
But our cold maids
do dead men's fingers call them.

There on the pendant
boughs her crownet weeds
Clamb'ring to hang,
an envious sliver broke,
When down her weedy
trophies and herself
Fell in the weeping brook.

Her clothes spread wide,
And mermaid-like
a while they bore her up;
Which time she chanted
snatches of old lauds,
As one incapable
of her own distress,
Or like a creature native
and indued unto that element.

But long it could not be
Till that her garments,
heavy with their drink,
Pulled the poor wretch
from her melodious lay
To muddy death.

High Strung
08.31.04 (7:49 pm)

My boss thinks I'm high strung.

Uhm, yeah, nice sleuthing Dick Tracy.  What tipped you off?   The near constant look of surprise on my face or perhaps  the chronic vapor lock?

Whatever.

I can't get fired from this job.

I've only been there a month and I will probably be "moving to a less active set of loan officers" soon - but that and I quote, "is not a reflection on me."  WTF?  Yes it is a reflection on me -I am not good enough so they are sitting me with the slower kids...  Grrrr...  I am furious with myself.

Guess it is time to up the meds, bunker down and get my needle in the right groove.

...and a dark gloom fell over the land.
08.29.04 (7:41 am)

IT IS FINISHED.

I cut up my only remaining credit card today.

The one I use for EMERGENCY purposes.

My backup.

"Why destroy it," you ask?

After taking my computer for repairs I went on a shopping spree.  Hit all the best stores.  Bought new clothes that fit.

Spent more money than I make in two weeks.

Let me put this into perspective.

Getting FAT is not an emergency.

Bankruptcy is.

Anyone know?

BOB DOLE Says, BLEED
08.23.04 (8:16 am)

I can't reiterate enough my distaste for Bob Dole. It started back in the day when he was running for President.

He chided my generation for not knowing what it was like to fight in a war, and all that it implied. Ignorant, spoiled children we were... For starters, this had to have rankled the feathers of more than a few Gulf War vets - my evidence? Ross Pierot's ballot count. Perhaps he also failed to recognize that his fighting in a World War was (hopefully) with the intent to prevent future generations from having to fight? ...maybe that is naive of me...

Dole's latest contribution to this grumpy old man routine begins with bashing Kerry for not "bleeding," in Nam. Very nice. Let me add that to my list of things to look for in a leader, the proven ability to bleed copiously in defense of his country, or of liberty/democratic values etc... Oh wait, that would preclude our current President... What *are* you getting at Mr. Dole? Now I am confused. You brought up a great point about Kerry's record in the senate. Too bad half the nation stopped listening because of your other remarks.

SWIFTBOAT VETERANS FOR TRUTH (full text)

"WASHINGTON - Newly obtained military records of one of Sen. John F. Kerry's most vocal critics, who has accused the Democratic presidential candidate of lying about his wartime record to win medals, contradict his own version of events."

and

"Money has poured into Swift Boat Veterans for Truth since the group launched its television advertisement attacking Kerry earlier this month. According to O'Neill, the group has received more than $450,000 over the past two weeks, mainly in small contributions. The Dallas Morning News reported yesterday that the organization has also received two $100,000 checks from Houston home builder Bob Perry, who backed George W. Bush's campaigns for Texas governor and for president."

PROTEST THE PROTEST MAN.
08.18.04 (3:31 pm)
Some doorknob on the east coast is launching a =http://www.nypost.com/enterta...BASH BRUCE campaign in retaliation to the songwriter's ongoing ANTI BUSH concert tour. Ah, that's America's freedom in action folks. One of the most beloved songwriters on the east coast standing up for something he believes in while some freeper nobody goes after him. It's a beautiful thing freedom of speech.

I'm curious though, would anyone really turn down tickets to a free Springsteen concert because they were supporting Bush? ...and if you would, uhm, can I have your tickets man? Let's face it, I sat through a good ten-twenty minutes of Don Henley blathering on about =http://www.eaglesfans.com/vis...Walden just to hear Hotel California, so what's a little Kerry promoting while you are waiting for Bruce baby to launch into Born to Run or Red Headed Woman?

I can't say I mind celebrities speaking their minds about the body politic. So what if it infuriates me at times. More often I find myself laughing - see Fred Durst at the Grammy's asking the crowd if they were all in, "agreeance" with him abouth the war. Yes Fred darling. I couldn't agreeance more. Once in a while, I'm even moved. Possibly the best political statement at a concert I ever had the pleasure to be personally involved in was in '92 when the Sugarcubes had the entire crowd littering the arena with plastics cups on Earth day. I've always felt it said more about my generation than any speech ever could.

Exercise your rights kids, in 3 more months they might be gone.

Christians GONE WILD!!! Big Brother America 5
08.18.04 (9:20 am)

BB5

A'ight kids.

The Christians have gone off their nuts. Completely. I grew up Baptist. I know how real Christians are supposed to act - and how many of them act in spite of their religion. Wanna guess where the houseguests fall?

"Jesus told me to vote off the gay guy and the black guy?" Okay, it's not a direct Adria quote but she did agree with Marv when he confronted her with those very words.

Anyone feel like Jesus would be sitting around with Will and Marv shaking his head at this crowd?

Will and Marvin are both strong players. No doubt about it. A. didn't have to pull the Jesus card. Especially when it makes her look like a complete asshat. All she had to say was, you two guys are a threat and leave it at that, but no, she had to make a very condescending speech. Since she had somewhat of an alliance with Will she could have at least put Cowboy up. I don't know who her other choice would have been. Marv did save the twins asses too... She was in a rock and a hard place for sure but DAYAMN, she couldn't have made a worse decision in my eye.

Speaking of cowboy - could anyone on the jury really give the competition to someone else if he were in the final two? what was it someone said? Trying to be mean to him is like trying to be mean to Forrest Gump? God it's true. He's done some stupid things but at least he's consistent.

I digress, back to the Christians, now as far as I can remember there is no admonishment against body hair in the bible but I am pretty sure that it is implied somewhere in there that you shouldn't be checking to see if your bedmates shaved, "all over." These people must be on crack. "I love the baby JESUS!" "Erm, but I love nekkid shaved guys and screwing my friends over too..." (Again, not a direct quote from a houseguest.)

Those watching will know that last paragraph was about Diane and Drew. Diane's a shifty little biatch but she can play the game. I hate the way she is stabbing Will int he back, but she knows she could never win against him - and once he is out of the house and finds out she was against him - watch out, noone's gonna want her to win. Drew is walking an ever thinning line too. Cowboy already has a vendetta against him - and I don't hink anyone would give him a win unless he were up against Diane anyway. the boy has so much potential! He's been very disappointing. That's the good thing about him being a twin though - it's like I have a do-over with his brother...

The rest of the houseguests are flying under the radar - or are the last of the houseguests just the crazy chick? I can never remember her name. Maybe that will work out for her...

Clever Band Names
08.17.04 (4:32 pm)

A local garage band is playing at a bar tonight.

They call themselves, Darc Horse.  Clever - using a C instead of a K.  Was is Bill and Ted's Big Adventure where the band was Wyld Stallyns or was that a a group playing in a dive near Ft. Riley last year...  Memory fails me.

Grwoing up there was a group around here named Haag Circus.  Never really understood that one either.

Absolute worst I've ever heard was Flame.  "Flame" you say? "  "Flame isn't that bad a name for a band?"  Well, no, I suppose it's not if you are a Bon Jovi  - esque hair band, but when you are playing the ferry going from Fishguard, Wales to Ireland, there are only two of you, the balding guitar player has a ponytail and the female lead wears white spiked heals and brown panty hose, it's worse than bad...  It's tasteless... Imagine the horror as they announced their name to the first few bars of Hotel California...

::shudder::

Musician's everywhere, heed my call, do not fall into the temtation of cleverly naming your bands like this.  Take a long hard look at yourself, your band and what you play.  Name yourself accordingly.

What do I say?

I had a tough day.

I was stressed.

My car's in the shop.

My dad's driving me around like  when I was in Jr. High - I am pushing thirty and can't even get to work by myself...

The last thing I thought I would hear on the way home was that Hooch had cancer.

Hooch is my folks Fila Brasileria, AKA my little brother.

He's not suppose to go away.  I don't want him to go away ...and I can tell he doesn't want to  go either.  Christ, I would rather it were me that was sick...

Better Be Home Soon

Neil Finn

LYRICS

somewhere deep inside
something's got a hold on you
and it's pushing me aside
see it stretch on forever
I know I'm right
for the first time in my life
that's why I tell you
you'd better be home soon

stripping back the coats
of lies and deceiption
back to nothingness
like a week in the desert

I know I'm right
for the first time in my life
that's why I tell you
you'd better be home soon

so don't say no, don't say nothing's wrong
cos when you get back home maybe I'll be gone

when the nights go down
when you've had your fill
when there's nothing left

it would cause me pain
if we were to end it
but I could start again
you can depend on it

I know I'm right
for the first time in my life
that's why I tell you
you'd better be home soon
that's why I tell you
you'd better be home soon

True'er words were never spoken.

Texas In My Rear View Mirror
-Mac Davis

I was just fifteen and out of control
Lost to James Dean and Rock-n-Roll
I knew down deep in my country soul that I had to get away
And Hollywood was a lady in red
Who danced in my dreams as I tossed in bed
I knew I'd wind up in jail or dead
If I have to stay

I thought happiness was Lubbock Texas in my rear view mirror
My mama kept calling me home but i just did not want to hear her
And the vision was gettin' clearer in my dreams

So I laid out one night in June
Stoned on the glow of the Texas moon
Hummin' an old Buddy Holly tune called Peggy Sue (Peggy Sue)
With my favorite jeans and a cheap guitar
I ran off chasin' a distant star
If Buddy Holly could make it that far
I figured I could too

And I thought happiness was Lubbock Texas in my rear view mirror
My mama kept calling me home but I just did not want to hear her
And the vision was gettin' clearer in my dreams

But the Hollywood moon didn't smile the same old smile that I'd grown up with
The lady in red just wanted my last dime
And I cried myself to sleep at night
To dumb to run to scared to fight
And too proud to admit it at the time

So I got me some gigs on Saturday nights
Not much more than orchestrated fights
I'd come home drunk and I'd tried to write
But the words came out wrong
Hell bent and bound for a wasted youth
Too much gin and not enough vermouth
And no one to teach me how to seek the truth before I put it in a song

And I still thought happiness was Lubbock Texas in a rear view mirror
My mama kept calling me home but I just could not, would not hear her
And the vision was getting clearer in my dreams

Well I thank God each and everyday
For giving me the music and the words to say
I'd have never made it any other way,he was my only friend
And now i sleep a little better at night
and when I look in the mirror in the mornin' light
The man I see was both wrong and right
And he's going home again

I guess happiness was Lubbock Texas in my rear view mirror
But now happiness is Lubbock Texas growing nearer and dearer
and the vision is gettin' clearer in my dreams
And I think finally I know what it means
And when I die you can bury me in Lubbock Texas in my jeans

C'est moi?
08.05.04 (9:10 am)

A "little bird" on a forum I frequent called me self-absorbed.

Well, yes. I suppose I am. I'm shallow too, but let's save that for another blog another day.

Aside from my two cats, I have no responsibility and no real intention of taking any on.

Oh sure, I want more responsibility eventually in my job - but personally, just let me pay my bills and live in peace. I vote in elections, support my local firefighters and watch out for my fellow man. I'm just not at a point in my life where I want to get too involved with anything or anyone.

Is that so wrong?

Decisions, milestones and accomplishments.
08.05.04 (9:04 am)

August 5th. It August 5th! where does the time go?

In little over a month I hit the big 30!

What to do with myself now?

I am already the weird cat lady. That in itself is an accomplishment. I suppose the next big goal I set for myself is to stop living on credit.

the only problem with that is I have a bad feeling my vehicle is about to hit the proverbial wall, or it may just hit a substantial wall - I'm a really poor driver... So a car loan will be in my future. I just need something hoopty enough to get me around in - I'll wait for that bazillionaire to come into my life before I get the Escalade to tool around in.

...maybe he can buy me some furniture for the house too. The only furniture I have is a bedroom suit. It's a nice bedroom suit, but not exactly the place to entertain guests or the cable guy, unless of course the cable guy is really attractive. Erm, I digress, It's two story house for god's sake! It needs furniture! ...but before furniture it really needs new paint, floors and possibly siding. Where should I start? It's baffling. Make the bones of the house look good first and then worry about furnishings or get the furnishings right and work around them? Decisions, decisions, decisions.
